Happy birthday GNU! Vor 30 Jahren startete Richard Stallman die Entwicklung des GNU-Projektes, was später dann u.a. zu Linux führte und die Grundlage dessen ist, was wir heute Freie Software nennen. Und mit dafür verantwortlich ist, dass das Internet so geworden ist, wie wir es nutzen. Und noch vieles mehr.

Glyn Moody hat den ersten Beitrag von Richard Stallmann in der net.unix-wizards newsgroup rausgekramt: The Birth of a GNU Era.

Und auch die Free Software Foundation Europe gratuliert und feiert, dass es sie gibt: Changing the world: The GNU project turns 30.

“Without the GNU project and the Free Software movement that it inspired, our everyday lives – and the Internet – would be a very different place right now,” says Karsten Gerloff, President of the Free Software Foundation Europe.
